Benzene is one of the dangerous gases among all the gases. Benzene is a sweet smelling gas but it is not harmful if it is kept or stored in a particular place or area. Experts and scientists say that exposure of benzene will lead to leukemia, heart diseases and tuberculosis. At present the level of benzene is 8.4 micro grams which is more than that of the average level 5 micro grams per cubic meter. Benzene is mostly released from the vehicles and when the fuel is burnt. Benzene and other organic compounds are naturally present is the petroleum products but, when they are burnt the concentrated levels of benzene is released and is harmful for all the living beings. Both colorless liquid hydrocarbon and benzene are highly inflammable.
A news from of World Health Organization recently appeared that in every 4 in 1 million risk of leukemia is only due to the exposure to the benzene to a concentration of one gram per cubic meter. If we inhale benzene for huge periods then this may lead to the disorder in the blood in which it will reduce the production of the red blood cells and a plastic anemia. As per the United States Environmental Protection Agency, people who are exposed to benzene may become drowsiness, dizziness, headaches, and may even lead to respiratory, eye, skin tract irritation and at huge and high levels it may even lead to unconsciousness.
If the level of benzene effects women then they may suffer from reproductive effects at high levels. Whereas India looked forward and took some preventive measures to meet the international standards of one percent of benzene in petrol. The total aromatic content available in the petrol have been reduced by thirty five percent and olefins unsaturated chemical compound which contains at least one carbon to carbon double bond which is widely used in the petrol industry about eighteen percent. But the levels of air borne benzene is rising due to the vehicles and increase in over traffic levels which is required to take advance measurements on traffic, whereas the benzene content in the United States is presently 0.62 percent when compared to the aromatics which is twenty five percent in the largely polluted areas.
Hence, to avoid and to reduce the of benzene the government should take necessary actions such as implementing the best footpaths for the cyclists and the pedestrians to walk and ride safely. The roads must be clear clean that it should not be a reason for traffic due to the large pits and path holes. Reduce the level of using vehicles to nearby places, instead use cycles which are echo friendly and even go by walk which will be little relax for your legs.
