Eric Young Jr. showed the power of his speed while scoring and led his team Mets overcome Colorado Rockies in a tight match, this Tuesday. Result of the match was declared 3-2. The lightening fast left fielder from Mets made a spectacular diving catch, taking away go-ahead hit from Todd Helton during sixth inning. He then raced home making the tiebreaking run to lift the cup for the Mets.
The Rockies lost 12 out of 18 games since All-Star break. They have been able to score just five runs throughout the last three games.
According to the energetic player, “It was a great experience. There are no hard feelings against my opponent. I appreciate their move since I would not be in such a situation in case they had not taken the step. However, it was good to showcase my talent.”
Walt Weiss, the manager of Rockies mentioned after the match that the talented player has terrible action and the speed that is required for changing the course of any game. He was all praise for the quality of speed and enthusiasm of the game, which Young displayed on the field to snatch the game from Rockies.
Young led the eighth through a single, but was able to initiate second through the deep fly by Marlon Byrd. This maneuver in turn put him in a position for making it home on the infield single of Lagares. Meanwhile, Lagares was also able to hit a triple two-run set in the first.
La Troy Hawkins considered two-out singles pair during the ninth. Ike Davis dived to catch a sinking liner of Yorvit Torrealba in territory of foul, down the initial base line. With this effort Hawkins registered his first save for the Angels since May 2012. Scott Atchison was able to pitch an eighth inning without any score followed by Carlos Torres, who pitched 1 2-3 favorable innings to relieve Jenrry Mejia of Mets.
According to the manager of Mets, Terry Collins, “I apprehended that the pitch was good enough.” He further added, “I think the Umpire got off the track when he was injured. On the other hand, our bullpen offered a great job.”
Manny Gonzalez was injured after a pitch by Mejia bounced and hit his jaw under his mask. However, the manager assured that the player was feeling much better after the match was over.
Flores, who made his debut in the big league, played shortstop within the system followed by Mets. However, he showed tremendous skill and was able to seal the void at third after David Wright took off the field after getting hurt, the weekend before. Chad Bettis also allowed four hits and two runs through five innings.
Lagares’ triple helped to settle Bettis down, while Rockies ran back in the fifth. This came as a surprise after Rosario was able to hit a spectacular leadoff single to score with the help of sacrifice fly.
Sources added that the Rockies were able to figure out the strength of Young beforehand. However, they were not able to secure any room for the talented star in their bench or lineup.
