The UK has produced some classic TV programs, many like Faulty Towers and Eastenders have been exported all over the world. These days cheesy talent shows like Strictly Come Dancing and X-Factor seem to be more popular with the UK TV audience. Below is some info on these cheesy shows and their viewer numbers so far this year.
Strictly come Dancing
Strictly was first broadcast on the 15th May 2004, the show features celebrities that are paired with professional dance partners, the professional dancers coach their celebrity partners and coriograph Ballroom and Latin dance routines so that they can all compete with each other. The show was adapted from Come Dancing, one of the BBC’S longest running shows, Come Dancing was aired from 1949 to 1998.
Since its launch Strictly Come Dancing has been hosted by Tess Daly and Bruce Forsyth, the show has been hugely popular with the format exported to 40 different countries. The shows current panel of judges, Craig Revel Horwood, Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli have been with the show since the first series. This years celebrities include the model and WAG, Abbey Clancy and Singer, Sophie Ellis Bexter.
The first show in this years series of Strictly Come Dancing beat The X Factors viewer ratings of by 300,000, the 2013 Strictly launch show was actually the most-watched series premiere ever.
X-Factor
Like Strictly the X-Factor was first aired in 2004. The X-Factors original judging panel was made up of Sharon Osborne, Dannii Minogue, Louis Walsh and Simon Cowell who was subject to a legal battle because of X-Factors similarity to a previous show called Pop-Idol on which Cowell was also a judge but did not own the broadcasting rights.
The basic aim of the show is to find talented singers who are selected by the panel in the first instance, then the public can vote via premium rate phone lines to select the final winner. The final winner is awarded a £1 Million recording contract with Simon Cowells record label Syco.
Simon Cowell is not on the 2013 judging panel of X-Factor UK because he is working on the US version of the show, this years panel is made up of Take That singer Gary Barlow, Sharon Osborne Louis Walsh and former Pussy Cat Doll Nicole Sherzinger has taken Simon Cowells place.
The X-Factor has has a competition, this years X-Factor competition closes on the 3rd October 2013 and has a cash prize of £20,000.
